Life is brimming with opportunities, yet how many of us truly see them? At any given moment, there are countless paths you could take, lessons you could learn, and ways to grow. But do you seize them? Or do you press the snooze button and let those moments slip by?
A Story About Opportunity
Some people say I’m “blessed.” They see the results of my efforts and assume things came easily. But the truth is, my successes have stemmed from staying positive, having unwavering faith in my journey, and making the conscious decision to learn from every experience. Once I’ve found the lesson, I move on, stronger and more prepared for the next challenge.
For those who don’t know me personally, I’m someone who puts 100% into every project. I love learning something new every day and take pride in being an asset wherever I work. That passion and work ethic, however, came with a price. Toxic workplace characters - those who play games rather than put in the work - often saw my dedication as a threat.
Recognizing Toxic Distractions
One of the most critical lessons I’ve learned is how to recognize when a toxic person is trying to get under your skin. These individuals thrive on distraction. They want you unfocused, absent, and making mistakes. Their tactics can confuse even the brightest and most driven people, leaving them doubting themselves and unable to reach their full potential.
The truth is, you cannot stay positive if you allow that toxic energy to cloud your intentions. These moments require clarity and self-discipline. Set one intention: stay present in the moment. See the toxic behavior for what it is - a game designed to pull you off track. Refuse to play. Instead, keep your eye on the big picture, your goals, and your purpose.
Once you can slow down and truly observe the games for what they are, you’ll find you can respond in ways that neutralize their impact. Clever, calculated “gray matter” replies - calm, unprovocative, and non-engaging - become your shield. These types of responses signal that you won’t be baited, denying them the reaction they seek while allowing you to stay grounded and in control. Over time, this approach not only preserves your energy but also makes you far less of a target. For specific example of these, refer to my other blog called "What is a gray matter response?"
By mastering this skill, you reclaim your focus and turn their distraction tactics into background noise. You stay sharp, present, and completely aligned with your goals.
The Power of Constant Growth
Raising children taught me that life is ever-changing. Kids grow fast, and every phase comes with its own set of challenges and learning curves. I tackled motherhood the same way I approached my career: educate myself, implement strategies, review the results, and move on to the next challenge. Every small transformation, whether in my home, my children, or myself, brought immense satisfaction. To me, the reward isn’t in avoiding hard work; it’s in seeing the transformation and feeling the rush of happiness hormones kick in.
But there’s something I learned even more deeply during this time: self-care and personal growth are non-negotiable. I realized that to be the best mom, I needed to start with my thoughts. Happiness doesn’t just happen - it’s something you cultivate by taking control of your mindset.
No One Gets to Hijack Your Mind
In a world full of distractions, toxic relationships, and external pressures, you have to guard your mind like it’s the most precious resource you own - because it is. I made a choice not to let anyone hijack my brain or steer my focus. Books became a lifeline, a source of wisdom from those who had walked paths I hadn’t yet traveled.
When you listen patiently to different perspectives, you develop a toolbox of insights to shape your unique approach to life. This curiosity and openness have been my compass, driving me to become a slightly better version of myself each day.
Always Have a Goal
Whether it’s building a warm home for my family or diving headfirst into my latest passion project, I’ve found that happiness comes from growth. There’s joy in tackling a challenge, solving a problem, or simply learning something new.
At any moment, there are a hundred opportunities waiting for you. Will you open your eyes to them? Or will you hit snooze, letting time and potential slip away? The choice is yours, but I can promise you this: if you stay positive, remain curious, and have faith that your efforts will pay off, you’ll always find the next door waiting to be opened.
So, when toxic energy tries to derail you, set your intention to stay focused, present, and clear-minded. See the game for what it is, stay aligned with your purpose, and trust that your efforts will lead you exactly where you’re meant to go.
What’s your goal today? Don’t wait - start walking toward it.
